Dear Sir/Madam,
RE: – Unity Developer Intern
I am studying Computer Games Technology at The University of Portsmouth in my first year and before this I have worked on a few of my own projects for my A-levels and have done a games creation course over the summer of 2018. As well as this I studied Physics and Computer Science for my A-levels.
I have experience in Swift, C#, Python and C++ and during my first year at University have worked in multiple teams as well as created a game on my own. For my A-level computer science dissertation, I created an app using Swift and Xcode. This was a solo project where I had to learn a new language and create an app within a year. During the course I did over the summer of 2018 at Imperial College London I created three games using Unity. I have more details about my projects and my previous work on my website where you can also find my CV www.alexandersandford.com.
When I read about your organisation, it brought me back to my childhood in The Bahamas. I was three years old, living in Nassau, when the hurricane related disaster that was the original impetus for HOPE occurred. I have vivid memories from the subsequent years I lived there of the stress and consequences that natural disasters in The Bahamas and Haiti brought with them. I am also acutely aware that the educational opportunities that I was lucky enough, due to family circumstances, to have access to was not the norm in The Bahamas. I am also acutely aware of the impact of prejudice on children and adults. I believe that all children are born equal and with innate curiosity, and I would welcome the opportunity to lessen the divide. Although not anywhere near approaching the impact of prejudice and lack of opportunity, my personal journey with a form of dyslexia and being ostracised because I did not conform to ‘normal’ provides me with a perspective on the difficulties people face. It took one amazing teacher in my A-level computer science degree to make me feel my potential and see opportunities that I could never have imagined before. I would like to give this same feeling to others who may not have yet been given that perspective or opportunity.
Thank you for considering my application. If you would like any additional information, my contact details can be found on my website. I look forward to hearing back from you.
Yours faithfully,
Alexander Sandford
